The winter season is still running full blast, but it is already worth looking ahead at March and April, as there are a number of great end of season events waiting for you in the Alps. If you want to be part of one of them, then you should be quick about it… you will probably not be the only one!
We have put together an overview of some of the event highlight for this season:
15th March: Snow Jam Davos, Sports Centre Davos
A real treat for all hiphop and rap fans: the organisers in Davos were able to put together a great international line-up for this mundane resort. This includes the Londoner Dizzee Rascal, and the popular German artists Fettes Brot and Cro, as well as Stress and Prinz Pi. Between 13:30 and 21:00 they will be performing on the stage at the Sports Centre. Afterwards you can continue having fun at the “after party” in the Congress Centre. Tickets can be purchased for 79 Swiss Francs or 99 Swiss Francs with entry to the “after party” included.
2nd – 4th April: Electric Mountain Festival, ski area Sölden
This is quite a new festival, however no less successful than any other. The organisers have managed to put together a great line-up again, especially for the weekend concerts. Since the end of November this festival has been running, but at the end of the season, in April, it reaches its peak! Acts such as Tujamo and Plan B have already visited the stage at the Giggijoch, and for April we can expect to see Klingande (02/04), Chuckie (03/04) and Martin Solveig (04/04). All events start at 13:00. Support acts include, amongst others, Juliet Sikora and Tube & Berger (both 04/04). The day lift pass is also the festival ticket for the respective date.
3rd – 6th April: Ibiza Snowflake, Saalbach-Hinterglemm
Ibiza flair in the mountains – that is what this premiere in Saalbach-Hinterglemm is aiming for! DJs from Ibiza, Amsterdam, Munich and Vienna will be performing in 3 clubs, a ski hut, and on the open-air stage in the resort. The main attraction of this event surely is George Morel, who will be putting on a 4-hour long set. Further, the line-up is completed by Marcello, Joy de la Rosa, Alex Kentucky, Steve Hope and Angel Linde, besides others. The event tickets can be purchased for one, two or all three evenings and cost between 20 and 35 Euros for pre-sales.
5th April: Splash Contest, ski area Schmittenhöhe, Zell am See
Skiers and snowboarders alike will be sure to get wet when participating here! The probably coolest contest in the Alps takes place at approx. 2,000 m altitude. A basin inlayed into the snow and filled with water has be crossed by gliding across the surface. The next round can only be reached if the participant reaches the other side of the pool. However, it is worth it: the prize for winning first place (men and women) is 500 Euros. Further there are items and goodies to be won. From 05/03 you can register for the event on the homepage of the ski area.
8th – 12th April: Zermatt Unplugged
One festival which stretches through the entire resort at the foot of the Matterhorn. Zermatt Unplugged occupies various locations – including a tent stage, the “Vernissage”, the “Sunnegga Paradise” and “Alex”. The list of acts is long and worth seeing: Aloe Blacc (08/04), Tom Odell (08/04), Katie Melua (09/04), Jamie Cullum (10/04), Mick Hucknall (11/04) and Milow (11/04) will be playing here. Tickets can be purchased for each concert individually and the prices start at around 50 Swiss Francs.
15th April: Fire & Ice, ski area Hochzeiger im Pitztal
2 elements which could hardly be more opposite, come together here in this spectacular show: fire and ice! For this event the ski area Hochzeiger is covered in light and colour. Fire & Ice – that means a great show with fantastic power formations and breath-taking stunts performed by the local ski school, as well as a great parade of the Hochzeiger snow cats and a lovely firework at the end. From 19:30 the visitors ascend with the gondola to the middle station. A free shuttle picks up all the spectators from all the resorts within the Pitztal.
20th April: Top of the Mountain Easter Concert, ski area Ischgl
“3 is ne Party” (3 is a party) – that’s the title of the current album and also their motto for the second-last Top of the Mountain concert in Ischgl on the Idalp. The popular German hiphop band Fettes Brot will be rocking the stage – no question! As always with these concerts in Ischgl, entry to the events comes with the day (weekly) lift pass ticket.
3rd May: Top of the Mountains season end concert, ski area Ischgl
This will probably be the biggest event of the year! Ischgl has managed to get one of the most famous singers on stage of the open-air location on the Idalp. And he will be bringing along a Big Band. Robbie Williams will be performing songs from his current album “Swings both ways”. The concert starts at 13:00 on May 3rd. Entry again is included in the lift pass price.
With these events in sight, the prospect of the season ending is just that little bit more bearable…
